Someone Is Going To Ask You For Gas

Recently about eight months ago summer 2007, Lisa and I pulled into Pilot truck stop in Ontario, Oregon. We washed our windows and got some coffee and decided that we should stop for a bit and eat. I parked the truck and Lisa started throwing lunch together. We needed some butter or bread or something and she asked if I would run in the truck stop and grab what we needed. So I went in got what we needed. As I walked out of the store just before I stepped off the curb, I heard a voice. Well, not really but yea. I heard inside my mind, not with my ears, I just knew, “Someone is going to ask you for gas and you are going to help.” You see normally people are just looking for a hand out to buy beer or cigarettes or something. If someone really needs gas out here I always check the fuel gauge and verify it first. (see testimony, We entertain Angels unawares)

As I proceed to the truck I walked past this car and this fellow was in there with his window rolled down. I figured this was the guy who might need help. I walked on past and the man did not say anything so I reasoned to myself, “Oh, it must have been my flesh, or some weird thing going on in my head.” But, it was real and still like resounding in my mind, “Someone is going to ask you for gas and you are going to help.” I continued to walk to my truck. As I was nearing our truck, I see a guy pull up to the truck get out and knock on the truck door. I see a woman and a small boy in his pick up truck. Lisa rolled down the window, and the man proceeds to talk with her. I am witnessing this and thinking to myself, “is this who I am supposed to help with gas?”

I walked up to the man and said, “How may we help you?” He said, “My family and I are traveling to Bend, Oregon for a job and I am not sure we have enough gas to get there. Can you help?” I did not even have to check his tank on this one, I responded, “Pull your truck around to one of the gas pumps.” I handed the stuff to Lisa and said, “We have to help these people, I will explain later.” As they pulled around to pump number two I went in the station and prepaid an amount to the pump.

I walked out to the pump and proceeded to talk with the man. His family was from Boise, Idaho and he had a construction job scheduled in Bend, Oregon. He went on to tell me how glad he was that we were here to help them as they had just got done praying for someone to help them get more gas. I asked, “When did you two pray for gas?” He said, “About five minutes ago, why do you ask?” I told him that about five minutes ago as I stepped off that curb over there, something told me that someone was going to ask for gas and you were going to help.” We were both somewhat amazed at the whole thing and praised God what had just happened. We continued to talk as he filled his tank and found out that they had been involved in various ministries in the past. We prayed right there in the fuel line for Gods continued provision and traveling mercies.

We said or parting goodbyes. I turn around to go back into get my change and there were two hippie looking boys sitting on the sidewalk who looked like they had been traveling. One of them had a Styrofoam coffee cup with a cross scratched on the side and writing on the bottom, “we are hungry.” I walked over to them and asked them, “When was the last time they ate?” They said it had been two days. There was an Arby’s sandwich place in the store. I asked, “do you like Arby’s?” They said, “Man anything would be good right now.” “Would you like a regular meal?” “Yea!”

I got my change went into the Arby’s and got to super meals with fries and a soda drinks. I walked out the door with food in hand and when they saw it one of them said, “Man you are a life saver!” I gave them the food and said, “I am not the life saver, but there was a man named Jesus Christ who lived 2000 years ago, who was crucified and died, and God raised Him from the dead. He is coming back soon to establish God's Kingdom here on Earth are you ready to meet the real life savor?”

One of the boys mouth dropped to the sidewalk. In utter amazement he told me, “You are the second person to tell me that today, I mean exactly what you said words and all.” I said, “Then you know what to do, for all things are established by a witness ofe….” He interrupts me and finished the statement, “by a witness of two or three.” I said, “Today you have received your second witness.” You had better do something about this. He said, “When I get to Portland I will go to Church.” I said, “You must be baptized in Jesus name.” We shook hands and I walked back to the truck.

One just never knows when or where or how God will choose to use us for His glory. I think the point is we should always be ready in season and out of season for His hand to be made known.
